4-H & the Military. The New York State 4-H Youth Development Program provides predictable programming for our military youth populations, no matter where they live through both the Military 4-H Club Program and Operation: Military Kids (OMK) – programs which fall under the umbrella efforts of the 4-H/Army Youth Development Project (YDP). The YDP is an eleven-year partnership funded by Army, Air Force and the United States Department of Agriculture/National 4-H Headquarters. The Military 4-H Partnerships in New York State support our Active Duty soldiers stationed at Ft. Drum, West Point and Ft. Hamilton, as well as, the geographically dispersed Soldiers of the National Guard and Army Reserve as they support the Global War on Terrorism and other military missions locally, nationally and globally. Currently New York State has over 26,000 Active Duty, National Guard and Army Reserve Soldiers deployed. The 4-H Military Partnerships benefits: * Mission Readiness - with their children in quality programs, military personnel can focus on their mission * Impacting new audiences - 4-H is reaching a whole new audiences of youth around the world * Transition - military youth can find 4-H in every county in the U.S. and on overseas installations * Use of Public Resources - tax dollars are being used wisely The Partnership benefits are faciliated by the State 4-H Military Liaison who links military Child & Youth Services Staff, on and off installations, with County 4-H Staff. The objectives of OMK are to:
Our mission is to support National Guard, Army Reserve and Active Duty Soldiers’ children and youth living in our own backyards by increasing community awareness of issues faced before, during and after deployment through education; and by creating a network of services and resources available locally for affected military kids. We accomplish this through four program support elements:
